It’s just our thing

I’m happy to report that we have arrived safely in Rock Hill.  Yesterday was my daughter’s due date—but so much for that.  Ruby Carolyn will come in her own sweet time.  In the meantime, we’ll enjoy the wait.

Hopefully, I will get settled in soon and get back in my routine and perhaps have something to write about.

This is the best I can do for you today… “Waffle House”

Yes, you read that right.

On our last leg of our journey from Bismarck, ND to Rock Hill, SC we stopped somewhere in Tennessee for dinner at an American institution—Waffle House.

I’ve said before, the Dakotas and Montana would be almost perfect if they just had an occasional Waffle House.

I know, you probably think Sonja and I are crazy, but it’s just one of our “things”.  (It goes all the way back to our first day of marriage, but that’s a story for another time.)

Over the years we’ve celebrated anniversary meals, birthday meals, family meals, Christmas day meals, and many others at, you guessed it, Waffle House.

So, here’s the point: it’s those “It’s just our thing” things which make relationships special and enduring. Every time you do a “It’s just our thing” thing, you bring all the other good memories with you into it and the happiness just keeps compounding.

The ONE THING for today: Don’t take those “It’s just our thing” things for granted.  Be intentional about starting them and be even more intentional about celebrating them, for there will come a day when the “our” in “It’s just our thing” is not longer there and then…it will just be a thing.

By the way, Christmas is a great “It’s just our thing” time.  Go overboard this year!

Hanging out with my sweetheart and wife of 41 years at Waffle House on Strawberry Plains Pike in Knoxville, TN. They treated us like family!
