Stirring the pot

If you’ve ever had doubt about the power of words, that doubt should have dissolved by now.

The current Coronavirus scare is clear evidence of the power of words.

Of course the issue is serious and wise communication is important. But the emotional and irrational responses that are blanketing the entire globe, threatening to throw us into a tailspin is due in many ways to too much obsessing over it.

The ancient proverb: “When words are many, transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent” (Proverbs 10:19) has never been truer.

There’s a lesson here for so many situations, but one thing is for sure, there’s always a point when stirring the pot anymore ruins the recipe.

Or put another way, the wise learn early the art of knowing when to stop stirring the pot.

The ONE THING for today: When speaking, speak only what is necessary and only for as long as necessary.
