“I got gaps, she’s got gaps, together we don’t got gaps.” _Rocky, speaking of his fiancé Adrian
One of the great tasks of life is learning to live in the gap between promise and fulfillment.
A lot can wrong in the gaps.
Whether it is a gap in your security system, your memory, your income vs. your expenses…you name it, living in the gap is tough.
There are two things that are absolutely required if you are to, not only survive but thrive while living in the gaps, and they are faith and hope.
And get this…
For faith to sustain you it requires another word to partner with it. It requires the word “in,” as in “I have faith in…”
And in the same way, the word hope must include the word “because,” as in “I have hope because…”
In others words, faith is not blind or fanciful, it is grounded in something…or more importantly in Someone (God).
And hope is not groundless (wishing upon a star, luck, a roll of the dice, a lottery ticket, chance), it is based on a wise plan of action and solid evidence.
- The ONE THING for today: The bigger the gap between promise and fulfillment the greater the likelihood of despair. That is why you must constantly be growing in your knowledge of God and becoming more and more clear on his plan for your life. This is the great task of life.
Hebrews 6:10-12 (NKJV)
10 For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister. 11 And we desire that each one of you show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope until the end, 12 that you do not become sluggish, but imitate those who through faith and patience inherit the promises.
