John 13:12 (NKJV) After washing their feet, he put on his robe again and sat down and asked, “Do you understand what I was doing?”
_________
Jesus didn’t wash the disciple’s feet because their feet were dirty (I’m guessing this was not the first time the disciples gathered around supper without washing their feet). Jesus washed their feet because it was a great opportunity to demonstrate and teach some hugely important life-lessons.
The same motivation should be the catalyst behind your actions as well. Helping someone because you love them and care for them is just icing on the cake. Your ultimate goal for serving must be first and foremost because you are demonstrating the character and ministry of Jesus Christ—“I have given you an example to follow. Do as I have done to you.”
- The ONE THING for today: The next time you run across “dirty feet” see it as a teachable moment where you can demonstrate and teach others how Jesus would have us live.
Romans 5:8 (NKJV)
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Good Word Pastor Kemp. We do not see the washing of the feet much any more.
