Satisfying your curiosity

John 20:30-31 (NKJV) And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

Wouldn’t it have been a privilege to have interviewed Lazarus?

You know, the guy Jesus raised from the dead.

Just think about it; here’s a man who was graveyard dead.  There was no doubt about it—he had been dead four days.  The funeral had occurred, the burial had taken place, all the neighbor’s food had been disposed of and the kitchen had been cleaned.

And then, just when you’ve moved on to something else, Lazarus comes walking in the local breakfast shop and sits down beside you at the counter and orders sausage biscuits with gravy. (That may have been what killed him!)  Yikes!

Now that’s news.

But the Bible tells us nothing about it.  Nothing!

Not a word about how Lazarus died or his recollections.  Not a word on where his spirit went during those four days.  Did he go to heaven or was he in some sort of limbo land?  Was he aware?  Did he actually hear Jesus speak or did he just wake up?  How did it feel to come to in a tomb!?  This is just a short list of questions; I bet you could add another dozen or so to the list.

And then, run the clock up a few years to when Lazarus died…again.  How did that go?  Was Lazarus aware of what was going on?  Was he better prepared?

The questions are almost endless.

too-many-choices-question-marksBut the Bible doesn’t answer a one of them.

Notice where the emphasis was—on Jesus Christ.

The Bible is not a tabloid.  It is a best-seller; the number one best seller year-in and year-out; but it wasn’t written to be a best seller.  The bible was written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.

  • The ONE THING for today: There comes a time when we have to quite theorizing, questioning, and complaining and finally just say, “God did it, so what I am I going to do about it?”

Behold a man raised up by Christ!

The rest remaineth unreveal’d;

He told it not; or something seal’d

The lips of the Evangelist.
