The ONE THING for today

It’s not your experience

Just because someone is having a bad day (maybe justly so) doesn’t mean you have to share their experience and have a bad day.

Just because it seems that everyone at your company hates their job (maybe justly so) doesn’t mean you have to hate yours too.

Just because the entire nation or world is focused on a particular issue doesn’t mean it has to matter to you.

Remember, other people’s experiences are their experience, not your experience.

You can care, sympathize, listen, and try to understand and help but that doesn’t mean you have to enter into and share their experience.

  • The ONE THING for today: Keep your emotional independence.

You keep your emotional independence by drinking from the right well.

While everyone around you may be drinking from the waters of public opinion or what’s trending right now or from the dirty waters of bad attitudes and stinking thinking, you stay focused and centered on that which is noble, pure, and of good report (Philippians 4:8), encouraging yourself, strengthening yourself, and believing in yourself \\ and above all staying focused on God and his dependable character and promises as revealed in his Bible.

Following is some “good water” to drink…

“My Hope is Built on Nothing Less” by Edward Mote, 1797-1874

My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovely face, I rest on His unchanging grace; In every high and stormy gale My anchor holds within the veil. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.

His oath, His covenant, and blood Support me in the whelming flood; When every earthly prop gives way, He then is all my Hope and Stay. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.

  1. Thank you, Pastor Kemp, for quoting one of my favorite hymns. A statement of faith! Oh that we would sing it as a congregation once again as it was originally composed. Blessings, Claudia
