The following is an adaption from a journal entry I made on September 3, 2010. My grandson, David Lee was a 14 months old at the time.
I included a picture from that time period showing all three David Lee’s. From left to right: 1.0, 3.0, 2.0 versions.
Today I will be keeping my grandson, David Lee, for a few hours. My daughter-in-law jokingly said she was not worried because she had actually heard me tell David Lee “No” two times at a recent family “get-together.”
As a grandfather, it has been hard for me to say no to anything David Lee wants to do. But as he is maturing the stakes are rising. There are just some things too dangerous for me to allow him to participate in. There are other things that are just not socially acceptable. Therefore, because I love my grandson I now (occasionally) say “No”. It is not because my love is lessening but because he is maturing.
The same is true with our Father God.
It is not because His love is lessening, but because you are maturing.
The ONE THING for today: God’s “No’s” are not a sign of his lessening love; they are a sign that the stakes are higher because you maturing.
