Needy People

“No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; if a clod be washed away by the sea, Europe is the less, as well as if a promontory were, as well as any manor of thy friends or of thine own were. Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.” _John Donne, Meditation 17, winter of 1623

*****

I remember a team member of a well known leader telling me that the reason his boss had chosen him was that he was not needy.

It was not long after that that I learned that this team member had crashed and burned and left the team

Turns out that actually he did need his boss.

The ONE THING for today: Releasing responsibilities and authority to people does not mean you can release them. None of us ever get beyond needing an encouraging word and caring accountability.
