“If it wasn’t for the coffee, I’d have no identifiable personality whatsoever.” _David Letterman
*****
When asked the secret to his success as a late night talk show host, David Letterman is reputed to have said that one of the most important things he did was to never come across as smarter than his audience.
That reminded me of a good piece of advice I received as a pastor – never own a car nicer than your most prosperous members.
What is the connection?
People are not that interested in you and me being impressive and successful, they are interested in us being impressed with them and thinking they are successful.
The ONE THING for today: The goal today is not to come across as more clever but rather very clear – clear that you care about others and are interested in them. Do that and success will be yours.
