It’s just a thing until…

We must not forget that it is not a thing that lends significance to a moment; it is the moment that lends significance to things.” — The Sabbath (FSG Classics) by Abraham Joshua Heschel

You know those little wedding cake toppers depicting a bride and groom? You can buy a really nice one off Amazon for less than 50.00. But it’s just a thing until it sits atop the wedding cake of someone you love.

Looking to doll your house up a little? You can do it cheaply at a yard sale. The going price for very nice doodads (that is a real word) is anywhere from a few cents to a few dollars. Afterall, each doodad is just a castaway thing until…you receive a delicate little doodad from your grandmother who received it from her grandmother…then it becomes a treasure.

Hungry but in a hurry? You can pop into a MacDonald’s and for a very modest price buy a burger and fries, plus a Coke. But you know and I know there’s nothing special about what’s on your tray unless…you’re not in hurry but rather on a “date” with your three-year-old daughter. Then it becomes a memorable moment to be savored and treasured forever.

Wondering what the price of a house is? According to the research (Google is a wonderful tool!), the average price in the United States is 374,900. But whether the price is a 15,000 used mobile home or a million dollar townhouse in a skyscraper in a major city, it’s just a thing until…you move in…then it becomes a home.

Okay, enough already. You get the point.

THE ONE THING for today: Don’t underestimate the difference you are going to make today. You just being there…your touch…your voice…your love makes all the difference.
