Death is the golden ring

“As for Bilbo Baggins, even while he was making his speech, he had been fingering the golden ring in his pocket: his magic ring that he had kept secret for so many years.  As he stepped down he slipped it on his finger, and he was never seen by any hobbit in Hobbiton again.” _J.R.R. Tolkien, The Fellowship of the Ring

We are sometime told to look at the big picture when faced with the daily frustrations and tasks of life.

Well today, remember to look at the really big picture—eternity.

Today, tomorrow and the next day is not all there is.  Long after this entire universe has cooled into a lifeless darken graveyard you will still be alive.

No matter the pain, problems, and perplexities you may face today; and no matter the success, satisfaction, and superlatives this day may bring, remember there is more—much more.

Whatever you do, don’t lose sight of that!

The ONE THING for today: One day (soon?) you will slip on the golden ring of death and will be seen no more…but you will be more alive than you’ve ever been while living on this earth. Live today with that eternal truth in mind.

Nevertheless we, according to His promise, look for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.
2 Peter 3:13 (NKJV)
Lady Fall showing up is not always a guarantee in North Dakota. Many times ole Man Winter blows in and pushes her right out of the way. But not this year. I took this picture in the front yard of the Regional Parsonage. What a good example. Living well is important, but leaving well is also important. I strongly suspect they are connected.
