Yesterday [read here] we looked at our “ands” and “thens”. The one thing for the day was…
The ONE THING for today: Life can slip away from you with an endless series of thoughtless “ands” unless you are intentional about inserting “thens” in the right place.
Today let’s continue our little English lesson by adding the word “finish“,
I am going to do this and this and that and that and go here and go there and then…I will be finished.
Learning the art of finishing is one the vital keys for living a life of sanity and satisfaction. It is a part of the fabric of life and goes all the way back to the dawn of creation. Read about it…
1 Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done.
3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.Genesis 2:1-3, (NKJV)
Just to be clear, God didn’t “rest” on the seventh day because he was tired or had exhausted his creative ability, he rested on the seventh day because he was finished.
He had done enough.
He closed up shop and went home.
He turned the computer off, turned the lights out, and shut the door behind him.
He put his tools away, sweep the floor, locked the gate, and went home and enjoyed a great dinner.
He crunched the numbers and determined that he had enough and decided to have a party and enjoy himself.
And he “sanctified” this finish-principle, calling it Sabbath and included it in the cycle of life.
The ONE THING for today: Before starting something, determine what has to happen for you to be finished. To fail to do that is to set yourself up to ultimately fail.
