Tone matters

Tone matters.

How you say something is just as important as what you say. Your tone will be the difference between achieving what you hope to achieve or being resisted, or even worse–ignored.

It’s like the two preachers who preached about hell.  One preached like he wanted people to go there, the other as if he did not want them to go.  It made all the difference in the results they had.

Your tone either expresses concern and care or a calloused indifference.

Your tone expresses passion and engagement or boredom and lack of commitment.

Your tone will express and foster confidence or uncertainty, hope or fear, and love or rejection.

Your tone will even express the kind of person you are.

For example, the pitch we call “middle-C” is middle-C whether it vibrates from a piano string or a banjo string. But the moment you hear the tone you will know which instrument is being played.

In the same way, how you say something (the tone) often speaks louder than what you say.

The ONE THING for today: Tone matters. It determines the effectiveness of your communication and more importantly, it is a window to your soul that either opens or shuts the door to someone else’s soul.
