Occasionally people ask me how I can come up with ideas for a daily blog.
The main way is that I am looking for them.
I have a little folder that I save the “seed thoughts” for my blogs and then each day I go through them and write a blog about the one that really resonates with me.
But here’s what I’ve notice, I trash most of my potential ideas.
At the time I wrote them down they seemed like a great idea, but a few days later the magic is gone and I end up deleting them.
I’ve found that much of life is like that.
Ever said this, when someone asked you why you said or did some dumb thing, “It seemed like a good idea at the time.”
Recently a familiar bible verse captured my attention. The writer wrote: “It is appointed for all of us to died once, but after this the judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27)
Pretty sobering, isn’t it?
But here’s what grabbed my attention, and I’ve made it my go-to principle for this year. When making a decision, always ask, “But after this…”
Are you like me? O how much grief I could have spared myself (and those I love) if I had taken what seemed like a good idea at the time and sat on it for a day or two.
If only I had asked before doing the crazy and dumb things I have done, “But after this?”
The ONE THING for today: If an oncoming eighteen wheeler suddenly veers out of their lane and into yours, you’d better make a quick decision (Dodge that truck!). But most decisions are not like that. The next time you come up with a great idea or the next time you gear up to give someone a piece of your mind…you may be right; but it wouldn’t hurt to sit on it for at least a day. I’m guessing most of those great ideas will be like my “great” blog ideas…destined for the trash bin.
