Those painful backhanded compliments

You don’t have to insult the sun to complement the moon.  In the same way, you don’t have to complement a man and then tear him down at the same time.

I hear it all the time.

For example, someone says, “Ole Pastor Smith is a good preacher, but of course he’s not as good as Pastor Jones was.”

What does Pastor Jones’ preaching have to do with Pastor Smith’s?

Judge a man on his own merit.  We’re not running a beauty pageant.  Learn to accept a man or woman as they are.  Celebrate them and keep others off the stage.

The ONE THING for today: Your ability to make a difference greatly increases the day you learn to give praise without any qualifications.
