Psalm 35:11-16 (NIV)
11 Ruthless witnesses come forward; they question me on things I know nothing about. 12 They repay me evil for good and leave me like one bereaved. 13 Yet when they were ill, I put on sackcloth and humbled myself with fasting. When my prayers returned to me unanswered, 14 I went about mourning as though for my friend or brother. I bowed my head in grief as though weeping for my mother. 15 But when I stumbled, they gathered in glee; assailants gathered against me without my knowledge. They slandered me without ceasing. 16 Like the ungodly they maliciously mocked; they gnashed their teeth at me.
Everyone is not going to celebrate your commitment to fast.
For them your focus on spiritual things and growing in your faith is odd.
At best you will sense their silent displeasure and at worse you may be ridiculed and even persecuted for your efforts.
Remember, often the people who should be supporting you the most will not understand.
That’s OK, you are on a journey. You’ve heard a call that is calling you to higher ground. People will not understand; many will not support you and some will even resist you. Persevere anyway; fitting in with the crowd has never been the key to success; your sacrifice and commitment will not go unnoticed by the One who counts and he will honor you richly.
- Prayer: Father God, protect me from the ridicule and abuse of those who do not share my passion and zeal for you. Strengthen my resolve and renew my heart that I may please you whether it pleases anyone else or not.
