The first of the year is meant to be a time of reflection and recalibration (new beginnings).
A great way to do this is to commit to a season of fasting. Fasting clears the mind; gets your attention off the physical and onto the spiritual. Fasting is not a diet or exercise program, it is a death—a time to starve lesser things in your life so that you can feed the better things in your life.
This New Year season of fasting has been a discipline in my life for many years and I have found it be very beneficial.
I invite you to join with me in this New Year’s ritual. Starting tomorrow I will use my blog to share a daily devotional with you to help you on this 40-day journey.
In the meantime, devote yourself today to hearing from God as to what he wants you to fast over the next 40-days and prepare yourself for a journey that will change your life.
- Prayer: Father God, please anoint me to hear your voice concerning my 2016 fasting commitment. I truly want to please you and be with you. I want to be all that I can be for you. I want to be more than a “trophy of grace” I want to be a “champion of grace”. Today I am preparing myself for a season of training so that I can win the prize—which is YOU.
1 Corinthians 9:27 (NASB)
27 but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
