Following is an entry from my prayer journal for today. It comes from my prayer time a year ago today in which I was praying about the next Sunday’s message. It was a good thought and worth repeating.
- Prayer: (SERMON\141130 AM – Why are you crying?): Father God, I was impressed today to remind your people that there is nothing wrong with weeping over the Cross—but not in a life-long litany of guilt, shame, and regret; but rather, in thanksgiving, gratitude, and release & freedom from the chains and burdens of sin. Christianity is not a morbid faith that drags us down, but rather a liberating faith that sets us free! Thank you, Father God for the good news.
Personal note: A year ago today when I was praying over the sermon to be preached for the next Sunday my dear friend, Larry Jackson was alive and I was his pastor. Now, a year later, Larry’s funeral service is today and will be officiated by his new pastor (A good and godly man \\ Pastor Leonhardt, you will be in my prayers today). The point is this…
No man or position endures forever in this life. There is no telling what you will be facing or where you will be this time next year. But this I know: Jesus and the victory he won for you at Calvary endures forever—even beyond the grave.
- The ONE THING for today: Do not put your trust in men, put your trust in Jesus; he will never fail you. If you weep today, be sure to mingle those tears with thanksgiving-for what Jesus did for you at Calvary.
Galatians 6:14 (NKJV)
14 But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.
