The ONE THING for today

Side effects

The fact that an effect is a “side effect” is meaningless if it happens to you.

Somehow we’ve got the idea that if it is a side effect there’s no need to worry.

Somehow we’ve got the idea that if it is small print buried down in the middle of a long and boring disclaimer statement that we don’t have to read it for surely it doesn’t concern us.

Truth be known, there are no “side effects”, they’re just effects and if they happen to you it will be small consolation that they were “side” effects.

Remember that before you go plowing into something simply focused on the one effect that you want.  That effect probably has a lot of buddies and you can be sure they will come along for the ride.

I bet David wished he’d thought about that the day he took a second look at Bathsheba!

I bet a few days later Pilate wished he’d thought about that after he’d washed his hands of Jesus.

  • The ONE THING for today: Remember, it’s too late to think about the side effects after you swallowed the pill (took action).  Best to consider that before tossing down that pill.

Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Consider your ways!
