- Proverbs 5:14 (NKJV) I was on the verge of total ruin, in the midst of the assembly and congregation.
Putting this verse in a modern context, it describes a man who is active in church and yet on the verge of total ruin.
How can that be?
It’s easy, he was listening to the preacher and also to the world (Proverbs 5:3).
You can’t have it both ways. The values and goals of the world and the Kingdom of God are at opposite poles. It’s not that they are different; they are in conflict (James 4:4). It’s not that they are opposite (like left is opposite of right); it’s that they are fatal to each other.
- The ONE THING for today: You’ve got live and work in the world, but dear friend, you can’t be of the world—don’t even listen to them!
James 1:27 (NKJV)
27 Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
(Most Christians are familiar with the first part of this verse but somehow the second part gets lost in the shuffle.)
