- Matthew 16:24 (NKJV) Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.
Taking up your cross and following Jesus is a good thing. But beware of thinking that the only difficulty of taking up your cross is the weight of it. Crosses are not meant to be carried, they are meant to be crucified upon–carrying them is only a means to an end.
Beware least you shortchange what God is trying to do in your life. That heavy cross you are carrying right now is meant to be endured until you get to the place of execution. God has sent it or allowed it in order that something in you can die…and here’s the good news: the new man or woman that he raises up from the ordeal will be so much better.
I don’t know the cross(es) you are bearing right now. But the ONE THING for today is not asking God to take away your cross, but to give you the grace to bear it until his work is finished in you.
“Whenever you are about to howl to the heavens, ‘I don’t deserve this!’, close your eyes and remember Christ hanging on the cross and say it again aloud, ‘I don’t deserve this.’”
