Be Careful with that Word: Excellence.

Be careful with that word: Excellence.

Excellence is usually always used in terms of tasks and achievements.

As in, “I want to do this with excellence.”

Or, “You did that with excellence!”

Excellence is all well and good, but remember: excellence is seldom the end, people are the end.

You can do a thousand things with excellence but fail to connect it with the handful of people who really matter to you and thus end up failing in the things that really matter.

Do what you do with excellence? By all means, but in all the doing don’t forget who you’re doing it for.

Somehow, I doubt “failing with excellence” is your goal in life.
