- 1 John 4:9 (NKJV) In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
We must be realistic with this thing called love. Virtually all people would say that they are “loving”—and the truth is they are right. What they fail to mention is that there are limits on their love.
This is true for all of us.
For example, think of the difference in your loving response to a homeless man versus your loving response to your own special child in your home.
Furthermore, like light being reflected from a broken mirror, our love is reflected through our brokenness. This often distorts the way we love.
Keep this truth in mind when people disappoint you. Remember, their capacity to love is limited—limited by their brokenness, their background (some people have never experienced healthy love and thus do not know how to love healthily), and by their priorities.
What is sad is when someone’s love is limited toward those that are most precious by their love of lesser things.
But for most people—they’re doing the best they can; go easy on them.
Lower your expectations — it can be one of the keys to a happy relationship.
