- Proverbs 14:4 (NKJV) Where no oxen are, the trough is clean; but much increase comes by the strength of an ox.
“It’s true that marriages are made in Heaven; so is thunder and lightning!” _Debra Jo Billingsley
I ran across some notes I took several years ago when Debra Jo Billingsley sang at my church. The above quote was one of the things I wrote down.
Debra Jo was breath of fresh air for us—former back-up singer for Lynard Skynard, a little rough around the edges and full of the love of God; she’s with Jesus now—lost a battle with cancer and won her eternal crown; not a bad trade.
Her remark about marriages and thunder and lightning is true. Most of life is that way. Every coin has a heads and a tail. Most swords are double-edged. Every face that can smile can also frown. A day can be sunny but also rainy. Life, marriage, and most everything else is simply not simple.
And that includes Christmas—full of joy and chestnuts roasting on an open fire, etc., etc., etc. But it also has Scrooges and people who will snap your head off if they think you’re cutting in the long line at the register. There will be people who want to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas and who will sue City Hall if they even think about putting a manage on public property.
We know this—that’s just how life is. So this year before we start with the usual “the world is coming to an end because people have forgotten the real meaning of Christmas” routine; let’s just nip it and spread a little good cheer and show people the meaning of Christmas.
Now that’s a novel ideal.
