- 1 Kings 8:20 (NKJV) So the Lord has fulfilled His word which He spoke; and I have filled the position of my father David…
It should be the desire of every child to fill the position of their father and it should be the desire of every father to leave a position worth filling.
I was reminded of this truth recently upon the death of one of FMCOG’s finest: Jerry Harrison, Sr.
Throughout the few days that I interacted with Jerry’s grieving family I kept hearing over and over from his wife and children about what a great man Jerry was. His sons on several occasions commented on how they hoped they’d be just half the man their dad was. Their comments were not simply the words of the grieving; they were true expressions about a truly great man from the people who knew him the best.
I want to remind you—whether man or woman—you are not going to keep your position on this earth forever. The Bible reminds all that it is appointed for everyone to die and after that will come the judgment (Hebrews 9:27).
While God’s verdict on your life is what is going to matter eternally—for you; the judgment of those you leave behind about you will also have eternal ramifications—for them.
Oh may God help you and me both to leave a position worth filling for those we love and care for!
Jerry left us a great example…and I have no doubt that his children will fill his position here on earth with the same integrity and commitment that their father did.
