- John 15:15 (NKJV) No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends…
Success is:
- To be at peace with God and if possible all people.
- To be loved and respected by those who know me best.
I remember a couple of years ago that we had one of those snows that pretty much shut everything down. There was little to do but stay in and stay warm. Somehow all the kids made their way over to the house and we all spent the day playing in the snow, playing games and cleaning out Sonja’s food pantry.
I wrote in my journal for that day that it was truly a successful day.
Why did I do this? Because my adult children wanted to be with their parents. With the snow, they had every reason to stay in their own homes and off the roads, but instead, they chose to spend most of the day with their parents. To me, that was true success.
Have you ever made the effort to get to know better someone you really liked and respected and then wished you hadn’t? There are some people who the more you get to know them the more you learn to love and respect them. But then there are also those regrettable cases where you wished you’d stayed at arm’s length because the more you got to know them the more you realized that the “public” person you knew was nothing like the “real” person you came to know.
The point is this: You may be able to fool people who don’t know you that well, but fooling the people who really know you is impossible. Eventually, the “real” you will be revealed.
That is why one of the definitions of success is: to be loved and respected by those who know you best.
If that can be said of you then, dear friend, you are truly a success – no matter your assets, position in life or lack thereof.
