At the End of the Day

“La fin du jour, c’es l’épreuve d’un tableau.” _Jean-Francois Millet

“The end of the day is the proof of a picture”, that is what the famous French artist, Jean-Francois Millet taught his pupils.

In other words, it was in that twilight hour when the evening gloaming was settling over the day; that time of the day when there is enough light to see but not enough to see the details—that, says Jean-Francios Millet is the best time to judge a picture as a whole.

That is true in life as well.

Maybe this blog post finds you in the midst of a trying time.  You’re stressed and worried.  Maybe a failure or humiliation haunts you and fills you with shame and embarrassment.

And then there’s all that needs to be done.  Like standing in a crowded elevator with everyone talking at the same time, you find yourself overwhelmed by all the demands and duties vying for your time and attention.

I get it.

Trust me, I’ve been there (and still am at times).

But I have lived long enough now to understand that this too shall pass.

Looking back over my life there were times that I didn’t think I was going to make it—today I can hardly remember the details.  Time has smoothed out the rough spots and filled in the gaps and honestly, its been a very good life.

God has been faithful.  The picture is looking better and better.  And the same can be true for you too.

Give it time dear friend.  The end of the day is the proof of a picture.

The ONE THING for today: This season will pass.  This storm will not last forever.  The full story has not yet been told and the picture is not completed.  Wait until the end of the day, things will look better then.

This blog post was inspired during Sonja and my visit to Traverse City, Michigan this past weekend to minister at the Lighthouse Church of God (Pastor: Matthew/Marlena West).  We arrived on Saturday to witness their big annual Cherry Festival.  It was nice, but what we enjoyed most was taking a leisurely walk along the coast of Lake Michigan and then just sitting on a park bench enjoying the evening together.

Yes, we’ve had our fair share of stress and strain, but we’ve lived long enough now to know not to take all that stuff too seriously.  We’ve learned to look for the park benches and enjoyed the evening breeze.
