- John 4:4 But He needed to go through Samaria.
This verse has always intrigued me. I don’t usually think in terms of Jesus “needing” things or needing to do something; but this verse makes clear that Jesus did indeed understand the term “need” especially as it related to his use of time.
The Apostle Paul sums up Jesus’ philosophy of life well: See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:15-17)
A part of my daily routine is answering two questions. The first is a question that looks forward, it is: “What does success look like for me today?” The second question looks back to the previous day: “What did I do that was of eternal value?”
Both of the questions are vitally important, for they keep me on track for taking care of the things I need to do.
As a devoted Christ-follower, each day there are many things you can do or would like to do; but missing those things that you need to do is a terrible tragedy.
Who knows, Jesus may ask you to skip lunch with the rest of the team today because you need to meet up with a person that is longing for living water that truly satisfies.
I needed this! You “needed” to write this blog! Thanks, Pastor, for using your valuable time to share a timely reminder.
