The ONE THING for today is: Challenge the Process
If you have not figured it out now let me clearly state one of the passions of my life – live life intentionally! Last night while you were sleeping life was moving on. New ideas were being born and old ideas – once the darlings of people in the know – were being swept up and emptied into the dustbin of history. Much of what you consider “normal” and predictable is becoming obsolete as you read this.
For example, Sunday I mentioned “screen doors” in my message; most of the people under age 30 may have never seen one and those under 20 probably had no idea what I was talking about. So you think your iPad is cool? Well it won’t be that long until it will be so “yesterday” (used mostly by “old people who can’t keep up”). Can anyone say, “Land line?”
This is why I encourage you to “challenge the process”. The Bible teaches that we must be like little children to enter the Kingdom of Heaven; well I would also (with deepest respect to the Author) also suggest that we must be childlike to even have a chance of staying current in today’s world. What do I mean? Children know the magic word: “Why?”
Today ask your boss, “Why do we do it this way?” Ask your colleague, “Why couldn’t we…?” When you arrive back home and move into the spouse/parenting mode, ask yourself, “Why do I relate to my family this way? Is there a better way?” Remember Dr. Benjamin Spock? I bet you don’t, but I bet your mother does. There’s a good chance that there was a time that she thought he was the authority on parenting (which may explain some of your problems :)). I suspect the same will true of the “parenting guru” of your generation.
Bottom line, this will require that you confront people. Do this respectfully and wisely, but remember you are not in a popularity contest; you are fighting drift and stagnation. You are resisting mediocrity and obsolesce. You are trying to stay on point when it comes to the mission of your life, you are trying to give a good account of yourself to your Creator and you are trying to finish well. Well…aren’t you?

Key take away for me was to challenge the process to find solutions, to add value!
