“The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world’s deep hunger meet.”
— Frederick Buechner
Our deepest gladness is to be found at the intersection of the world’s deepest hunger!?
If only we will believe this!
Of course the thing that keeps us from believing this is our shallow gladness. If you are like me, too often I am willing to discount my deep and lasting gladness for immediate gladness.
For example, being the original cookie monster, short term, Oreos trump exercising every time! This principle can be translated into dozens of daily decisions.
Bottom line…
Delayed gratification is an issue for anyone who desires to truly and fully follow Jesus, for you almost always find Jesus where the world’s deepest hunger is. And those messy, marred, and starving places are seldom happy places until…
Jesus has had time to do His work…
Through you and me.
And that’s when the deep gladness kicks in.
The ONE THING for today: Your deepest gladness is seldom connected to what you want now. Ignore the shallow hunger pains and follow Jesus into a hungry and hopeless world. That’s where you will find what you’re craving.
So true!
