The fact that a cross became the Christian symbol, and that Christians stubbornly refused, in spite of the ridicule, to discard it in favour of something less offensive, can have only one explanation. It means that the centrality of the cross originated in the mind of Jesus himself. It was out of loyalty to him that his followers clung so doggedly to this sign.

The ONE THING for today: Virtually the entire world loves Christmas because who doesn’t like giving and receiving gifts. And you can easily celebrate Christmas without a single mention of Christ. And every branch of Christianity celebrates Easters for who doesn’t rejoice over the fact that through Christ we will defeat even death. But if you really want to be close to the heart of Jesus, to understand what really and truly mattered and matters to Him…it will require, above all else, making His Cross (and yours) central.

10 that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death, 11 if, by any means, I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.
