I’m sitting this one out.

In my prayer journal I like to include little daily “kick-in-the-pants” motivational sayings to remind me to get up and get going with my day.

One that shows up several times throughout the year is:

Lead or follow…or get out of the way.

I’ve been challenged by that little kick in the pants many times.  But just the other day, the last part of the phrase grabbed my attention.  I had always operated under the assumption that I only had two options—lead or follow.

Both are good options, and both are proper in the right circumstances.

However, there is another viable option offered…

or, get out of the way.”

It’s good to remind ourselves that not only do we not have to win every race, we don’t even have to run in every race.

It’s not our job to champion every cause, solve every problem, save every whale, and fix every person.

This doesn’t mean that we are to stop caring, it just means that we can’t carry it all.

Sometimes the best thing to do is get out of the way and let other people have their say, their way, and their day.

On another day you may be called upon to lead or follow, but it may be, for now, that your best bet is to sit this one out.

The ONE THING for today: You’ve got three viable options today:  Lead or follow…or, get out of the way.  And sometimes, the last choice is the wisest choice.
