Jesus, why didn’t you go?

So, when He heard that he was sick, He stayed two more days in the place where He was. (John 11:6, NKJV)

Wow, get this—in writing his gospel, John records that when Jesus heard that his friend Lazarus was very sick he did nothing about it for two days. He didn’t drop what he was doing and go rushing off to help. Matter of fact, it was only after Lazarus died that Jesus made his way to the home of his friend.

My purpose of this “The ONE THING” blog is to provide you a daily “one thing” idea that will help you with your day–not a long dissertation. So I will not put you through a long exposition of this very important passage. However, I will remind you that Jesus’ reaction to the urgent call for help from Martha and Mary concerning their very ill brother was based on love (John 11:5).

It is so easy to believe that Jesus loves us when things are going the way we want them; when Jesus meets our expectation according to our time-schedule. But not so much when Jesus sticks to his plan and schedule.

  • The ONE THING for today: Are you willing to rest in the loving plan and schedule of Jesus even if you don’t understand it or like it?

Isaiah 30:18 (NIV)

Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore he will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice.

Blessed are all who wait for him!
