Maybe the only thing all Christians can agree on

agree-to-disagree

Christians everywhere and in all ages have agreed on at least this: Christians pray.

Now, getting Christians to agree on how to pray and when to pray and what to pray is another thing!

The very first disciples understood this and asked Jesus to teach them how to pray. He gave us “the Lord’s Prayer.”

Why not make the Lord’s Prayer a cornerstone of your prayer life?

Pray it at least once a day.

You may not know what else to say and you may not feel like praying, no sweat, Jesus has done the work for you.

If you are not a “talker” or if you are going through a dry season with little or no passion to pray—no problem; Jesus has made it simple for you; pray the Lord’s Prayer.

In season and out of season, on Sunday and on Monday, when you feel spiritual and when you feel like you’re a long way from God, just keep praying the Lord’s Prayer.

Why is it that we applaud developing good habits and routines in raising our children or in living our lives but sometimes get squeamish when it comes to developing good habits and routines in our spiritual life?

Good habits are the building blocks for building a good life and one of the best habits you could ever develop is praying the Lord’s Prayer daily.

  • The ONE THING for today: Why not start today to make it a habit to pray the Lord’s Prayer at least once everyday for the rest of your life?

Our Father who art in heaven; Hallowed by Thy Name.

Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever.

Amen.

  1. When we were Catholics we prayed the Lord’s Prayer and other prayers every day but then we were told that rote prayer was not good so we stopped. I am so glad you suggested saying the Lord’s Prayer everyday and that is what we are going to do. Love you Pastor and we will never forget you and the lessons you have taught us. The one I like the best is FIDO. and I have shared that with many people. Have a blessed week.

    1. Hey Ann, it is so easy, as the say–“to throw the baby out with the bath water”. Much of the bible is “rote” prayers. I can’t think of any more powerful prayer than praying scriptue–especially, The Lord’s Prayer. I’m thankful that my blog encouraged you to tap back in to that wonderful prayer again. Blessings to you and yours. 🙂
