Lessons Learned at a Truck Stop, part 3

There is only one real reason for stopping at a Truck Stop—to buy fuel.

But that is not why the Truck Stop exists. It exists to get as much of your money as it can. Thus there are dozens and dozens of things carefully and strategically placed throughout the store to entice you to spend your money.

Take t-shirts for example. How can you say no to a t-shirt that cheerfully declares: “I’m in shape, round is a shape”? or “World’s Greatest Papa”?

And everybody needs a one-pound Reese Cup, a giant soda and some of those yummy deep-fried goodies that smell so good when you walk in the door.

I could go on and on with this list of “must have” items.  But here’s the point: What specifically has to happen for you to be happy?

If your answer points to something or someone outside of your relationship with Jesus Christ then you’ve got some homework to do.

When saying, “I love Jesus” if you have to add words like “unless, if, when, or as long as, etc.” then you’ve gotten distracted by lesser things.

  • The ONE THING for today: This journey that we call life and this truck stop that we call planet earth offers you many options but the only real reason you are here is to come to know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. Anything and anyone else is just extra.

Who needs fuel?  Buy the t-shirt, how could you go wrong?
