2 Samuel 8:6b (NJB) Wherever David went, Yahweh gave him victory.
2 Samuel 11:1 (NKJV) It happened in the spring of the year, at the time when kings go out to battle, that David sent Joab and his servants with him, and all Israel…but David remained at Jerusalem.
Somebody else can do your job (through not like you). The moment you retire or move on to another job there will be someone there to take your place.
Furthermore, I get delegating (if done wisely).
And I can see the need for some people sending ambassadors (someone to represent them).
However, having said all that, you must never forget there are some things that only you can do and there are times that you must go yourself.
Someone else’s touch can never be your touch.
Someone else’s voice can never be your voice.
(I think I’ve meant/seen a few Elvis impersonators and fans who need to read this!)
Bottom line, you are irreplaceable. Don’t think that someone else can fulfill your calling and purpose. Like David when he remained in Jerusalem, when you send (or passively allow) someone else to do your fighting (loving, praying, worshipping, ministry) there will always be casualties.
- The ONE THING for today: There are some things that only you can do; wisdom is knowing what those few things are and staying relentlessly focused on them for the rest of your life.
I will give this final hint to help you determine what those only-you-can-do things are: they almost always have to do with your relationship with someone(s).
