I’m afraid many Christians think that Jesus died on the Cross so that they could be nice. They equate being a Christian to going around smiling, having a good attitude, tipping generously, helping little old ladies across the street, picking up trash off the sidewalk (even when no one is looking), etc., etc.
I’m not telling you to not do those things, by all means be nice.
But remember, a Satanist can smile and be polite. An athesit can have a good attitude. Even a cantanterous old jerk can still tip generously. A member of ISIS, right after beheading someone with kitchen knife, could help a little old lady across the street.
Meaning no disrespet to our Lord, but I’m not sure a careful reading of the New Testament would leave the impression that Jesus was always “nice” but it would show that Jesus was fearless.
So were his disciples as they took the good news to a pagan and hostile world.
Being nice would have never gotten the Gospel to you. Someone had to fearlessly put their life on the line for that to have happened.
- The ONE THING today: Be fearless as a Christian. Be fearless in your witness for Jesus Christ, be fearless in obeying God’s word, and be fearless in standing up for righteousness and justice. Oh and by the way, be as nice about it as you can.
7 They do not fear bad news; they confidently trust the Lord to care for them. 8 They are confident and fearless and can face their foes triumphantly. 9 They share freely and give generously to those in need. Their good deeds will be remembered forever. They will have influence and honor.
