- Psalm 1:1-6 (NKJV) Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful…
When determined to describe what a blessed man was like the writer of this psalm started with a negative—what the blessed man was not.
Being positive, having a good attitude, and thinking happy thoughts are all good…in their place. But if you can’t quickly state what you are not and where you will not go, and who you will not associate with then you are always subject to tyranny of the moment.
It’s one thing to rationally debate what you will and will not do over a cup of coffee with a friend and an entirely different thing to make that decision in the heat of the battle.
Bottom line, a person doesn’t just suddenly have a moral failure. No, the temptation and circumstances that brought about the moral failure only revealed where that person had been walking and standing and sitting for some time.
- The ONE THING for today: What you are not is just as important as what you are; be very careful and intentionally about choosing both.
