- Proverbs 28:1 (NKJV) The wicked flee when no one pursues, but the righteous are bold as a lion.
Today’s proverb reminds me of Adam. The first time he ever experienced fear was when he became guilty. Just like today’s proverb, Adam fled when no one was pursuing; God found him huddled up in the bushes—hiding. And the sad truth was, he was not really hiding from God, he was hiding from what he had become. And sadly, we daughters and sons of Adam have been fleeing ever since.
However, there is an antidote to this fear—righteousness.
First of all, do the right thing to the best of your ability. This will go a long way in helping you overcome your fears. However, it will never take you far enough to conquer your fears because you can never be perfectly/completely righteous with your own efforts.
But I have good news for you, you can be righteous by accepting Jesus’ perfect and absolute righteousness. You are hidden in him. No more hiding in the bushes of your own efforts.
How can you be bold as a lion? By trusting in the work Jesus has done on your behalf. When you put your faith in Jesus Christ you are in right standing with God. No matter what is happening in your life you can stand boldly and declare—I rest my case in Jesus Christ and that stops the mouth of every demon or devil that may come your way.
Like the dashboard indicators in your car, never ignore your fears; whether they are healthy or unhealthy they are having a huge effect on you; take them to Jesus and make an exchange–your fears for his righteousness.
Romans 3:24 (NLT)
24 Yet God freely and graciously declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.
