The ONE THING for today

Don’t make this about being loved

Whatever you do today, don’t make it about receiving love; that is the surest way to not get love. Oh you may get attention, you may get lust, and you may even get a little real love (it’s called “pity”). But you will never get the deep down soul satisfying healthy love that you so desperately need by trying to get someone to love you.

Love is a verb—something you do, not a noun—something you get.

Love is a gift—something you give away, not a commodity—something you trade or barter for.

So whatever you do today, don’t make it about getting love—you’re doomed to fail. Make it about giving love, and as it turns out, that is how you will receive love.

The ONE THING for today: Love is meant for others and should be given freely.

Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV)

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her

  1. Over the years, God has shown me that love, like forgiveness, is a decision you make. A command to love one another, to forgive one another, as Jesus has loved us, not subject to our volatile feelings or emotions. The father if prodigal son could have turned his back on his demanding son that left and chose to live a lacivious life, far from God, far from his father. Yet, he determined to love his son in spite of his son’s rejection of all values he’d learned at the knee of his father. There is married couple, experiencing isolation, “loss” of that love that saw them through 20 plus years, not realizing love grows, changes, past the infatuated newlywed years. Convinced they are no longer in love, they seek another to Kindle the flame of what they once shared with that spouse they vowed, before God, to love, honor and cherish as long as they live, remaining faithfule to that spouse, so help the God. Remaining faithful before God, and to God is the only way to peace of mind
