The ONE THING for today

Don’t sweat the details…

  • John 12:29 (NKJV) Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”

One of the difficult things to do in life is trying to figure out what God is doing or saying through the circumstances of our lives.

Life can be like the little boy coming in from play to discover a plate of freshly baked cookies on the counter. The question he has to answer is whether this is a blessing or a temptation. Perhaps his mother left them out for him. But it may have been that she baked them for dessert and only has them out to cool. Which is it?

Having been a little boy myself, I can assure you that he will have quite a conversation with himself over this matter. (Matter of fact, some of that little boy still lives within me!)

No need to guess this little boy's decision. :)

No need to guess this little boy’s decision. 🙂

Here’s the fact: God is speaking to us everyday—through our pain and problems and our joys and opportunities—but what is he saying?

If there is anything to learn from this passage of scripture (see context: John 12:28-32) is that God has gone to great extremes to express his love for you and to provide a way for you to be saved from judgment and to eternal life.

How this works out specifically always looks a little different with each of us and with each situation, but stay focused on the big picture—Jesus’ life, death and resurrection is a clear message to you—everything is going to be OK.

  • The ONE THING for today: Embrace the message of the Cross and trust God with the details…and the outcome.

  1. 15 [I do it because, though He slay me, yet will I wait for and trust Him and] behold, He will slay me; I have no hope—nevertheless, I will maintain and argue my ways before Him and even to His face.

Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. John 6:68
