- Genesis 6:9 (NKJV) …perfect in his generations…
One of the redeeming qualities about Noah was that he was “perfect in his generations” or as the NIV puts it: “blameless among the people of his time”.
Notice with me the word “generation(s)”.
Having just come through (yet another) birthday, I am reminded of how easy it is to identify with people my age. I like it when I go in a restaurant and they’re playing “my music”. I like it when I’m around people who understand “my world”.
However, the world is bigger than “my world.”
The Bible teaches that I am to live my life in consideration of my parent’s world (Proverbs 6:20, 15:20, 17:25)
The Bible teaches that I must be able to relate to my children’s generation (Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21)
I’ve even got to live my life taking into account my grandchildren’s generation (Proverbs 13:22; 17:6)
Bottom line, we do not have the luxury of living in our own little world. We cannot narrow our focus to just those people like us. We can’t pine for the good old days while dragging our feet about moving forward toward doing our part about these days.
The ONE THING for today: Take a closer look at those other people around you today. You’ll find they’re not as different from you as you think, and you’re find they need to hear the good news of Jesus Christ just as much as you and your generation did.
Genesis 17:7 (NKJV)
7 And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you.
