Recently in my studies of the Gospel of John, Ray C. Stedman in his commentary: God’s Loving Word wrote in reference to John 12:25-26
- “Here is the great Christian paradox. Here is the unmistakable mark of an authentic gospel: It begins with dying. It begins with a cross. If you hear a gospel proclaimed from a pulpit, or in a book, or on the radio, or on television, and that gospel does not begin with a cross and with the fact that some part of you has to die, then it is not the true gospel. That is the identifying mark.”
If you are like me, my sincere desire is to help my people but Stedman reminds us that if we truly want to help them we must help them die.
John 12:25-26 (NKJV)
He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
26 If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor.
The ONE THING 
Your comment is absolutely right on. Death of self is the beginning and continuing mark of a true Christian. As Paul said, “I die daily!” Excellent word! You are appreciated!
