- John 11:35 (NKJV) Jesus wept.
William Jennings Bryan was a well-known politician in the late 19th and early 20th century. He was the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate in three presidential elections. He is credited with starting the “national stumping tour” where a candidate running for office sets out across the country making numerous speeches to present his case to the people.
Mr. Bryan first did this in the 1896 presidential election making over 500 speeches in the short campaigning season; this before planes, buses or cars.
In reflecting on this later he recounts that the best advice he received for making this happen came from his mother. After one rather long and rambling speech in which his mother was in the crowd, she said to him after the gathering: “William, you missed several good opportunities to sit down.”
The ONE THING for today: Get to the point.
Or put another way: Stand Up, Speak Up, Shut Up!
That’s how you can get 500 of anything done.
