The ONE THING for today

A New Year’s Resolution

  • Matthew 14:30-31 (NKJV) But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”  31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him…

She writes:

Adolf Eichmann, the killer of the Jews of Budapest among others, had succeeded at nothing until he became somebody in the Nazi Party during World War II.  Killing Jews was the only thing he ever did well.  Adolf Hitler wanted to be a great artist, but nobody in Germany’s art galleries perceived any talent in him.  So he went on failing until he found success as a political leader who masterminded the killing of 6 million Jews, 3 million non-Jews, and the casualties of a world war.

Other major factors enter in.  But one cannot help but wonder what the course of that period of history would have been if Hitler and Eichmann had both succeeded early in their lives.  Maybe then their insecurity would not have been so great that it combined with other spiritual and political factors that in truth made them lash out at the world as mass killers.

Low self-esteem does not always evoke evil.  Nor does evil need human self-deprecation in order to succeed.  But it helps, and Satan often uses the fragility of the human ego as a vehicle for evil.

New Year’s Resolution: Look for people drowning in failure and despair and help them win…for everyone’s sake.
