- Luke 24:49 (NKJV) Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”
Bible scholars tell us there approximately 31000 promises in the Bible; however, there is only one which is called “the promise”.
The promise is the Holy Spirit—the ever-present, empowering and guiding presence of God!
Remember, to live a “Christian life” is to agree to a supernatural life. To think that you can do this without the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life is not like trying to be a fireman without a fire hose or being a doctor without a stethoscope. It would be tough, but a good fireman and a good doctor could still fight fire and disease without a fire hose and a stethoscope.
A better way to understand trying to live the Christian life without the presence of the Holy Spirit would be like trying to live without oxygen—impossible.
I’m afraid that far too many Christians think of living a Christian life in terms of it being tough sometimes but with a little help from my “friend” (the Holy Spirit) I can do it. No you can’t! You can claim all 30,999 of the other promises in the Bible, but if you fail to receive the Promise you are doomed in your efforts at living a true Christian life. (Hint: Don’t confuse practicing the Christian religion with living a vibrate and fulfilling Christian life.)
So here’s the one thing for today: Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. 38 He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” 39 But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive. (John 7:37-39, NKJV)
Very well spoken. Thanks
