- Romans 6:11 (NKJV) Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
An example would be a child asking their parent if they could go outside to play. A good Southern parent would say, “I reckon.” What the child would understand is that their parent was not all that enthusiastic about it but was relenting because there was no better reason to say, “No.”
Got that? 🙂
Well here’s what I want you to do: I want you to reckon yourself.
Paul sums it up well: Reckon yourself dead to sin and alive to God.
Paul admonishment doesn’t mean it will be a lay-up or slam dunk. Reckoning yourself dead to sin and alive to God is hard. There will be times that you are tested and challenged in this commitment. There will be times when it would be oh so easy to just give in but no—(stiff upper lip here) reckon yourself dead to sin and alive to God.
In other words: Do the math; weigh the evidence; determine to not sale yourself short.
You may not be the brightest, the best, or the most beautiful (say’s who?); but you reckon that if the Son of God came to earth as a man and was willing die on the Cross to redeem you, then God must see something in you that you and this world doesn’t see.
If God can reckon you redeemable then all I’m asking you to do is agree with Him.
Pick yourself up, brush yourself off and get out there and act like God’s right–I reckon there’s no higher endorsement than that.
