- Joshua 7:10 (NKJV) So the LORD said to Joshua: “Get up! Why do you lie thus on your face?
Taking personal responsibility for our life is one of the toughest things to do. It is so much easier to be the victim. Blaming others flows so easily from our lips – and it really makes sense that they are the problem. Finding excuses – very reasonable excuses – is easier than finding eggs at a children’s Easter-egg hunt.

But the truth is (in the words of leadership expert Fred Smith): “You are the way you are because that’s the way you want to be. If you really wanted to be any different, you would be in the process of changing right now.”
Oh I know, there really are people who complicate our lives and there really are “reasons” (vs. excuses) for why things sometimes go wrong. But at the end of the day, the truth is: we pretty much do what we want to do.
Consider today a post-July 4th meditation: the many men and women who paid the price to purchase our freedoms did not have in mind the freedom to find blame and make excuses; they brought for us the freedom to make choices.
No matter your condition or situation – you can make positive, productive and progressive choices. Get to it! It’s time to make a better life for yourself…and others.
