- Luke 10:34 (NKJV) So he went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine; and he set him on his own animal, brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
Leonard Sweet in his book, Out of the Question, Into the Mystery, records: “Much of history has been determined by personal relationships, especially the “personal” in relationships. Why did USAmerica drop the atom bomb on Hiroshima and not Kyoto? Because Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson had a personal relationship with the city of Kyoto. He spent his honeymoon there in 1926 and loved the Japanese art and culture. Although Kyoto was at first designated as the target for the atomic blast, Stimson intervened with President Truman, and Kyoto was spared.”
You are setting yourself up for a lot of frustration and stress if you think life is supposed to work logically. Nope; emotions and feelings pretty much rule the day.
Mathematics may explain how to build a house but it is human relationships that determine whether or not it is going to be a home.
A biologist or medical doctor can explain the “mechanics” for making a baby; but they can never explain the love of a mother – it’s a relationship.
A theologian can craft a creedal statement that explains the doctrine of salvation; but only a saved sinner can explain what it means to “be saved” – it’s a relationship.
What I’m trying to say is before you start pitching you latest idea, project or product – connect first.
Before you start telling people what they ought to do and where they ought to go – connect first.
On paper people ought to do the logical and rational thing; but life is not lived on paper, it is lived on a fallen planet where people bleed, hurt, cry, laugh, love, worry, and worship and seek to be understood.
When you take the time to make sure the relationship is healthy most of the other stuff will fall into place.
Thanks, Pastor -this one went straight to the heart today!
