One of the last things Jesus did…

  • Genesis 44:34 (NKJV) For how shall I go up to my father if the lad is not with me?

I was deeply touched this week by one of the last things it appears that Jesus did before he went back to the Father following his resurrection.  In the period between Jesus’ resurrection and ascension as far as we know Jesus did not appear to any non-believers except his brothers (Acts 1:9-14).

There’s another touching thing that Jesus did while on the Cross.  The last thing he did before giving up his spirit and dying was to make arrangements for the care of his mother.

Bottom line, while on a mission to save the world, Jesus didn’t forget his responsibilities to his family.

That’s a good reminder to us today.  None of us have a mission as important as Jesus, yet it is possible to become so consumed with the responsibilities and enticements of life that we forget what is really important.  Furthermore, as good as it is, it is possible to become so consumed in winning others to Christ that we forget our own family.

Remember dear friend, the “mission’s field” begins at your own doorsteps.

David’s Mourning for Absalom

Then the king was deeply moved, and went up to the chamber over the gate, and wept. And as he went, he said thus: “O my son Absalom—my son, my son Absalom—if only I had died in your place! O Absalom my son, my son!”

2 Samuel 18:33

  1. Hi Pastor Kemp, I remember a sermon you gave one Sunday about David and Absalom and the importance of taking time with your family, it really spoke to me. This was a great reminder! God bless,
